Information Store

The Simul8 Information store is a where you find items of data that can be used in your simulation to measure or control what is happening. These items of data are “global”. This means that they can be used anywhere in your simulation, and they will initially be set at the same value, anywhere they are used. Each item in the Information Store is called a “Global Data Item” or a Global variable.

Access the store from the Data & Rules tab or click CTRL I.

By Default the data items are organized into branches by type. Click on a branch node to show all the Global Data Items that exist within the simulation on that branch type

Click the New button to create a new Global Data Item.

You can select the type of item to create and, change the starting (or Reset) value, as well as monitoring the current value contained in the item. When the Simul8 RESET button is pressed the data item's current value will be set to the value in the On Reset box.

As Spreadsheets have many values you need to click the VIEW button to see the values in a Spreadsheet.

By right-clicking on these, you can do the following:

  • On any Number variable, to add it to the KPI Summary.
  • On any spreadsheet to set it as the Main Data Sheet - this means that when clicking on Spreadsheets, under the Data & Rules Tab, the nominated sheet will be opened.
  • On a spreadsheet cell to add it to the Watch Window

The Information Store has a References button that lists simulation objects and visual logic sections where the highlighted Global Data Item is referenced.

When the Information Store list gets long, has more than 15 variables, the most recently used items are listed and numbered at the top of the list for ease of use.

Click Search to search through all the Global Data Items to find a match (or partial match) on data e.g. if you performed a partial march searched for 10, the search would return the names off all the Global Data Items (including spreadsheets) where 10 is found in the items content i.e. any values of 10, 100, 1000 etc.

Click To File to output the list of Global Data Items to a text file
