What are cookies?

A cookie is a small file containing a string of characters that is sent to your computer when you visit a website. When you visit the site again, the cookie allows that site to recognize your browser. Cookies may store user preferences and other information.

Cookies provide a convenience feature to save you time, or tell the web server that you have returned to a specific page. When you return to the same website, the information you previously provided can be retrieved, so you can easily use the customized features.

Cookies set by the website owner (in this case, SIMUL8 Corporation) are called "first party cookies". Cookies set by parties other than the website owner are called "third party cookies". Other cookies also enable us to track and target the interests of our users to enhance the experience on our Websites and SIMUL8 Studio. This data is used to deliver customized content and promotions within the SIMUL8 Websites and SIMUL8 Studio to customers whose behavior indicates that they are interested in a particular subject area. Third parties serve cookies through our websites for advertising, analytics and other purposes.

What types of cookies do we use and how do we use them?

The specific types of first and third party cookies served through our websites and the purposes they perform.

Advertising cookies: These cookies are used to make advertising messages more relevant to you. They perform functions like preventing the same ad from continuously reappearing, ensuring that ads are properly displayed for advertisers, and in some cases selecting advertisements that are based on your interests.

Social networking cookies: These cookies are used to enable you to share pages and content that you find interesting on our websites or SIMUL8 Studio through third party social networking and other websites. These cookies may also be used for advertising purposes too.

The cookies collect information in an anonymous form, including the number of visitors to the site, where visitors have come to the site from and the pages visited. See the Google Analytics Privacy Policy.

Pardot sets first-party cookies for tracking purposes, and sets third-party cookies for redundancy. Using first-party and third-party cookies together is standard in the marketing industry. Pardot cookies do not store personally identifying information, they store only a unique identifier. Read more about how Pardot uses cookies here.

Hotjar

We use Hotjar in order to better understand our users’ needs and to optimize this service and experience. Hotjar is a technology service that helps us better understand our users experience (e.g. how much time they spend on which pages, which links they choose to click, what users do and don’t like, etc.) and this enables us to build and maintain our service with user feedback. Hotjar uses cookies and other technologies to collect data on our users’ behavior and their devices (in particular device's IP address (captured and stored only in anonymized form), device screen size, device type (unique device identifiers), browser information, geographic location (country only), preferred language used to display our website). Hotjar stores this information in a pseudonymized user profile. Neither Hotjar nor we will ever use this information to identify individual users or to match it with further data on an individual user. What about other tracking technologies, like web beacons?

Cookies are not the only way to recognize or track visitors to a website. We employ a software technology called clear gifs (a.k.a. web beacons/web bugs), that help us better manage the websites by informing us what content is effective. We use clear gifs or pixels in our HTML-based emails to let us know which emails have been opened by recipients. This allows us to gauge the effectiveness of certain communications and the effectiveness of our marketing campaigns. We tie the information gathered by clear gifs in emails to our customers' Personal Information.
