Accessing Simul8 on the web

Simul8 for the web is included with new desktop licenses. If you already have an existing Simul8 license, you can access Simul8 for the web with an Annual Maintenance subscription.

At this time, Simul8 for the web can only be accessed when purchasing Simul8 for desktop, or as part of an active Annual Maintenance subscription. We always welcome input, so please contact our team if this is something you would be interested in.

No, Simul8 for the web is download and installation-free. You will only need an HTML5 compatible web browser and internet connection to start building simulations with the full functionality and power of Simul8. You’ll also receive access to the latest Simul8 feature updates without installation.

Simul8 for the web supports most modern HTML5 compatible web browsers including Chrome, Firefox, Edge and Safari.

As Simul8 for the web is linked to a Simul8 desktop software license number, you can only use one version at any time.

Building and running simulations

Yes, you can run multiple simulations by opening Simul8 for the web in a new browser window or tab.

It is not currently possible to work on simulations offline. In situations where you need to work offline, we recommend using Simul8 for desktop.

Simul8 for the web offers the same power, speed and breadth and depth of features set as Simul8 for desktop. As an online tool, some features that require connections to external programs, such as OptQuest, are not currently supported.

Yes, you can upload Microsoft Excel or CSV spreadsheets to power your simulations in Simul8 for the web.

Saving and accessing simulations

Simul8 for the web can automatically save any changes to your simulations in the background. You can also choose to save simulations manually if you prefer.

Simul8 for the web regularly saves to a secure cloud web service. In the event that your internet connection is lost, any changes you make to your simulation will have been saved and will be present the next time that you log in and open that simulation.

Yes, you can upload an existing .S8 file created on any desktop edition of Simul8 to Simul8 for the web and continue editing the simulation.

Yes, you can download a .S8 file of any simulations created or edited in Simul8 for the web to use in Simul8 for desktop.

Sharing capabilities are not currently included in Simul8 for the web. Our development team are currently working on these features as part of our development roadmap.

It is not currently possible to sync simulation files although you can download and upload simulation files manually between desktop and Simul8 for the web versions. We welcome your feedback if this is a feature you would like to see included in Simul8 for the web and desktop.

Compatibility

Yes, Simul8 for the web can run on a Mac. One of the many benefits of Simul8 for the web is that it can run in most web browsers, regardless of hardware or platform.

Yes, it is possible to run Simul8 for the web on a mobile device or tablet. For the best experience we recommend using a device with keyboard and mouse support.

Simul8 for the web has the same powerful features and functionality of Simul8 Basic or Professional 2020. Simul8 for the web will always offer the most up-to-date release of Simul8, including quarterly Service Pack features and updates.

Yes, Simul8 for desktop will continue to be available. Simul8 for the web is designed to complement our desktop offering, providing our users the ability to work on their simulations on the move or on a device where the desktop application isn’t installed.

Training

General

You can get in touch with our team to book any of our training options.

We recommend starting with a training class if you are new to Simul8. If you are unable to attend one of our scheduled training classes, Simul8 Academy online learning is also a suitable option for beginners. If you would like to train your team in Simul8, onsite training classes will provide the most value.

If you already have experience of using Simul8 but need assistance with a simulation project, online coaching will be the best option for you.

We also offer consulting services if you need our experts to build and analyze a simulation on your behalf.

Training classes

Laptops are provided on public training courses and will have a copy of Simul8 pre-installed. For onsite training courses, your team can use their own laptops. A temporary Simul8 training license can be installed if you do not have a copy of the software.

We recommend that onsite training takes place in a room that has a projector, internet access and power supplies for laptops available.

Our Introductory class is delivered over two days, with the option to attend an additional third day Introduction to Visual Logic class. Our Visual Logic class can also be attended separately if you are already familiar with Simul8's core features.

We have course outlines available for both Introductory and Introduction to Visual Logic classes.

Coaching

Coaching is usually delivered online via GoToMeeting or similar conference call applications. It can also be delivered face-to-face.

A minimum of five coaching hours can be purchased initially, with options to buy additional hours should you need them.
