Run
When you press the Run button your simulation executes. You see the Work Items (products, patients, paper work etc.) move around your organization. The clock in the corner of the screen tells you what the equivalent time would be in the real system.
Your simulation is animated, giving you a visualization of your process, that only can often provide insight into how to improve your process. Look out for key bottlenecks (Queues that continually have high contents level), over-utilized Resources and under Resourced elements of a system.
As your simulation runs Simul8 automatically collects performance measures so that you can not only see visually what will happen, you can also get accurate numerical results to prove your case.
Your simulation will run for as long as is specified in the Results Collection Period or until the Pause button is pressed.
Run Options
Using the Run button drop down menu, you can access additional run options.
Run Simulation with new random numbers
Each time you press run, Simul8 will run using the same set of random numbers. This is to allow you to validate the system and know that any changes in results are down to changes you have made, rather than being caused by the random numbers used. Sometimes, however, you may want to run again using a different random number stream. This option gives you that control.
Go to Simulation Time
Runs the simulation forward at full speed to the specified simulation time. This is useful for debugging your simulation.
You can also access this feature by using the short cut Ctrl+G.
Go to End of Warm Up Period
Select this option to run your simulation forward to the end of the Warm Up Period with no animation. This is useful when you quickly want to get your simulation into a warm up state so you can then begin to run the simulation slower whilst you look at the animation to validate, verify your simulation or begin drawing insights from it.
You can set the warm up time either from the Build tab on the ribbon or from the clock properties dialog.
