SIMUL8 2010 Feature Tour

New Online Help Files

The Help files are available in the SIMUL8 side panel and are on by default for new SIMUL8 Users.

Automatically downloads an update when available, ensuring you are always the most up to date version.

A link is provided within the SIMUL8 Window to view online.

Gantt Chart View for Shift Patterns

Instead of going in and out of shift dialogs to remember the set up of each shift you can now view them all side by side in an easy to understand Gantt Chart view.

Make changes to shift patterns and instantly see the impact.

Visual Logic Command Builder

New command browser docked in the Visual Logic window.

You can easily view all the commands available to you and drag them into your Visual Logic code.

Create your own custom list of all commands you use repeatedly.

See an explanation of each command easily in the help panel at the bottom of your browser.

Great for new users getting to know Visual Logic and long term users of SIMUL8 making it quicker and easier to create your code.

Carbon Footprint Calculator

Ensure your processes are Green as well as optimized.

Enter carbon emissions generated by each simulation object and any offset generated by your process.

Receive a report at the end of your run displaying total emissions generated.

Spreadsheet Charts

Dynamically create charts from data stored within SIMUL8 internal spreadsheets.

Allows for a totally customized axis.

Our new Visual Logic commands let you control when the chart gets updated, allowing you to add one point, or refresh all the content.

Gives you complete control over speed and performance at run time.

Only available with SIMUL8 Professional

Stacked Area Charts

New chart display option to produce 'Area Charts'.

Area Charts give a proportional view of result totals.

This is a great way to visibly compare one set of values against another.

Only available with SIMUL8 Professional

Getting Started Mode

Allows new users access to a streamlined version of SIMUL8.

The more complicated features are turned off for quicker modelling of the basics.

Advanced /experienced users can switch to advanced mode at any time.

Custom Report Improvements

Custom Reports let you automatically generate great looking reports that look great and help to communicate the results of your simulation.

Improvements inculde our new text format palette, image drag-and-drop and table insert.

A new Visual Logic event has also been added that runs before a report is opened. Now you can dynamically adjust
the content giving you total control and flexibility.

Alphabetical sort of variables, KPIs, charts and simulation objects.

Only available with SIMUL8 Professional

Bring to Front Drawing Tools

Quickly and easily arrange the layers of your simulation objects and images.

Ideal for detailed overlapping backgrounds (AutoCAD / Photo).

Resource Schedules

Vary the number of resources available by minute, hour, day, week and month.

Visual Logic no longer required for this making it easier for you to get the accuracy you need.

Quick and easy set up.

Automatically works with whatever SIMUL8 Clock settings you have.

Only available with SIMUL8 Professional

XY Cursor Coordinates on the Simulation Window

The new XY Cursor Coordinates lets you know the exact cursor point in the simulation.

This means that any code you are writing that relies on simulation window position, can be exactly right first time.

No more guesswork!

Only available with SIMUL8 Professional

Agent Based Simulation – Visual Logic Attached to Work Items

Work Items have become intelligent entities in SIMUL8 2010.

Visual Logic can be attached to them so they can control their own behaviour and drive their interactions
with the rest of your simulation, rather than wait for objects to interact with them.

This means its now possible to use SIMUL8 to conduct agent based simulation, in the most practical
and applicable way, combined with discrete event simulation.

Only available with SIMUL8 Professional

Dynamic Image Browser

How your simulation looks is key to communicating your results to others.

In SIMUL8 2010 we've added a new image browser that lets you easily navigate your entire PC and quickly see a preview of all the images in any directory, making it easy to find the right image quickly.

Dynamic Calendars for object availability

Lets you set simulation objects to work to a calendar and control up and down time of your simulation objects and resources by date.

Now no need for Time Check logic.

Recurring events just like in MS outlook.

Includes new Visual Logic commands allowing you to completely configure and control your calendars even at run time.

Only available with SIMUL8 Professional

Edit Array Values in Viewer

In SIMUL8 2007 we introduced multi-dimensional arrays.

Unlike any other package (and not just in the simulation world!) we included a viewer functionality to visibly allow you to see the values.

With SIMUL8 2010 you can now edit the values in your array directly through the viewer making it quick and easy to make changes with no programming required.

Only available with SIMUL8 Professional

Any Numbers for Work Center Priorities

Priorities can now be real numbers giving you much more flexibility to dynamically control and adjust the priority sequence of your Work Centers.

The ability to use real numbers means that the possibilities on priorities are truly endless.

Ideal for back office and other complex systems where resource priorities are continually changing.

Interruptible Resources with Replicate

Interruptible resources allow you to stipulate that if work which is more important than the job the resource is currently doing then the resource will move onto the more important job.

Previously this option was not available with replicate but now it is in SIMUL8 2010!

Vital in even the most simple models with numerous resource tasks where replicate necessary.

Only available with SIMUL8 Professional

Substitute Resources on Shift Restart

Resource pools allow you to group different resource types together.

Previously if used on shifts they would wait for a certain resource type to return before restarting.

Now any resource type can be substituted so work begins as soon as someone is available.

Enhanced Visual Logic Interface and Usability

You can now save your simulation whilst you are in the Visual Logic window rather than having to close it, save your model, then open back up your Visual Logic section. This will save time and provide you with the confidence that you code is always where you left it.

Other Visual Logic improvements include:

Line by line undo (yes, no more losing all your logic. We felt your pain.)

Print VL option – print any block of code.

Save VL Mid edit

New Visual Logic Commands - Manipulate strings, control chart refresh, and groups

Windows 7 Compatibility

Fully compatible with the latest release of Windows
