SIMUL8 2006 Full Feature List
SIMUL8 2006 had some major developments that let you build even more powerful simulations quicker. We are currently on SIMUL8 2008, check out the SIMUL8 2008 Feature Tour.
Click on the links below for details on the new features that were added in SIMUL8 2006. Features with beside them are only available with SIMUL8 Professional:

Run a large number of Trials or Runs automatically with any number of configurations of any properties or variables.
For example

This feature is only available with SIMUL8 Professional)

Graphically display information on screen attached to a simulation object. You can display text, bars, and icons. You can specify conditions for different icon flags to be displayed and can display multiple bars so you can effectively create mini charts on the simulation window. All values are updated on screen as the simulation runs.

SIMUL8 can now automatically write results out to a Microsoft Word Template. You tell SIMUL8 what data you want exported and at the end of every run or a trial SIMUL8 exports to the location you specify in the word document.

Automatically analyze any distributions to see the simulation results that are sensitive to these distributions and by how much.

[Top of the page]
Record and play back macros. Just like in Excel all key and mouse moves are recorded. This is great for presentations and for routine tasks, for example automating runs.
[Top of the page]
We've dramatically improved the quality of the chart displays in SIMUL8. The look is sophisticated and modern. Technically they're better too with more sophisticated axis and grid lines.
We've also improved the chart display is updated during a run to give a much smoother animation.

The Dashboard replaces the need to create a spreadsheet interface for your simulations. The Dashboard lets you add information store variables and also specific spreadsheet cells and specify on the dashboard what their value should be on reset. You can add formatting and can insert blank rows so that you can add header lines if you like.

When a Trial has completed you can now extend it to a new number of runs to increase the accuracy, narrow confidence limits, without the need to re-run the previously executed runs.

Information Store Usability |
Just like in the Visual Logic list the variables you've used most recently are listed at the top.

Find out exactly where an Information Store variable is being used in your simulation.

Input Your Own Random Number Generator |
SIMUL8’s internal random number generator can now be replaced by any random number generator you like.
You just need to supply a DLL to generate the numbers based on commands from SIMUL8. Example code for a simply generator supplied. Complete source code also provided and compiled DLL for a Mersenne Twister generator (the “generator for the 21 st century” with cycle over 2 19000).
This feature is only available with SIMUL8 Professional)

Compare Simulations Filter |
The compare simulation report has now been improved with filters to make it easier to see the key differences between simulation files. Also the list of changes can now be copied to clipboard.
[Top of the page]
The event list on the Simulation Monitor can now be filtered. You can specify only to display events with containing certain text and deliberately exclude events with specific phrases. This is a fantastic aid for quickly debugging a simulation.
This feature is only available with SIMUL8 Professional)

Add Object Properties to the Result Summary |
You can now add any object values to the Result Summary. This is great for documenting your simulation results.

[Top of the page]
Set Color and Width of Routing Arrows |
You can now control the control the color and width of Routing Arrows. You can also now set the display option of each individual arrow.

[Top of the page]
We introduced Saved Views in SIMUL8 R10 to help you quickly move around simulations. Now Views work whilst the simulation is running as well. This is really great for presentations.
[Top of the page]
Set Availability of Resources from Visual Logic |
In SIMUL8 2005 we introduced the Resource Availability feature to allow you to state that a Resource will only
be available for x% of time, for example to represent coffee breaks. SIMUL8 then randomly makes it unavailable.
Now you can set this really useful property through Visual Logic as well.
[Top of the page]
Get Travel Time for Resource from Visual Logic |
A new command has been added to let you get the total time a Resource has spent traveling between different locations during a run.
[Top of the page]
Get the Resource Travel Time from Visual Logic |
A new Visual Logic command has been introduced to get the set travel time for a resource between two locations.
[Top of the page]
Set Username and Password for Database |
A new SQL command has been added to allow you to specify a username and password for a SQL Database.
[Top of the page]
Get Result Command New Options |
The Get Result command now has new options “Low Confidence Limit” and “High Confidence Limit” to get the confidence limits for the % level currently set by the user.
[Top of the page]
CTRL-ALT Stops looping Visual Logic, but this is a problem in some environments where CTRL-ALT-DEL must be used for security. This feature lets you change the key combination to anything you like.
This feature is only available with SIMUL8 Professional)
[Top of the page]
Visual Logic Loops can now use Local Data, introduced in SIMUL8 2005, for the Loop variable.
The loop variable can now also be viewed in the “Value Tips” information bar ( Pro Only) .
[Top of the page]
Special Labels Added Automatically |
Special label types (like DUE etc) are now automatically added to Work Item Types when the label is created unless there is any doubt as to which work item type it is intended for.
[Top of the page]
Variance Reduction Trial Option |
Variance Reduction can now be automated using the Antithetic runs option. If checked each individual run result used in the trial confidence limit calculations consists of the mean of results from 2 runs: The normal run and the antithetic of the normal run.
Theoretically you can halve the number of paired runs in your trial (so take about the same time) and yet get tighter confidence limits.
[Top of the page]
Obvious Simulation Assistant Messages |
The simulation assistant delivers messages on things in your simulation that it has identified that you might be doing wrong. Many people missed these messages because they were a bit hidden. To help you build better simulations we've changed the way the messages are displayed to make them a lot more visible.

The image library has been extended with 264 new images.
